A Long Story

A LONG STORY is a screen adaptation of the timeless eponymous novel by Mustafa Kutlu and follows the story of Bulgarian Ali (Kenan Imirzalioglu), an immigrant who left Bulgaria with his grandfather and settled in Istanbul as a little boy in the 1940s. The film itself begins in the 1950s when Ali, now a young man, falls in love with Munire (Tugce Kazaz) who is the daughter of a neighbor.

In the peripatetic life, he leads with Munire after eloping, Ali sets out to make a better place of every town they roll into. But his beaming, wide-eyed instinct for improving lives is matched by an irrepressible zeal for justice and equality; and the combination presents him with a new side of life at their every port of call. This LONG STORY of Ali, Munire and their son Mustafa drifting from one railway town to another through the 1960s and 1970s tells of an adventure that is by turns poignantly sad, rapturously upbeat and engagingly romantic...
