El Camino

When Matthew passes away from cancer, three of his young adult friends come together at his funeral: Elliot (Leo Fitzpatrick, Bully) who grew up with Matt in foster care; Lily (Elizabeth Moss, Mad Men) who was Matt's former girlfriend; and, Gray (Christopher Denham, Fast Color) who only knew Matt for a short time but felt an intense bond with him. At the end of the funeral, Lily and Gray decide to steal Matt's ashes and scatter them in Mexico. They let Elliot tag along, under the condition that he bankrolls the trip. What follows is an absorbing and elegantly shot American road drama about three kids trying to make sense of their lives - minus the overacting, overworked dialogue, and sparkling moments of clarity that usually ruin road trip movies. El Camino is refreshing for its straightforward and honest approach to the sub-genre.
