Puppet Master

A heartbroken boy, Ritesh, is given the power to control his life through a TV ad and he chooses to make his former girlfriend, Rehana, who is the fiancé of his flatmate, fall in love with him. The unnatural control pushes the universe to react in the most unexpected and brutal way that Rehana becomes the puppet.

Puppet Master film by Shivesh Ranjan tries to scrutinise the problem within the patriarchal system that always an urge control and his position as dominant in all genders.

The film is a male gaze on relationships and the mental & physical toll a girl goes through in a patriarchal system. It takes the liberty to create a certain feeling by using aspect ratios 1.43:1, 1.78:1 & 1.33:1. The experimental sound and background score give creepiness vibe with a sense of fear and mystery.

The story also incorporates some Bollywood mock sequences with the most common storyline for a love plot. The director believes that Bollywood has impacted the cultural and social aspect of today's India. And while we aspire and seek for happiness, closeness and friendship, Indian cinema has also been irresponsible in showcasing many problematic love stories that celebrate toxic masculinity and encourage men/boys to do many unlawful practices to woe his crushes.
